Dynamic Analysis of Criminal Behavior: An Application of Empirical Mode Decomposition

Our objective is to measure the permanent and transitory components of criminality in Brazilian states by using methodology proposed At Chappe (2005). The empirical strategy used follows Empirical Mode Decomposition method (EMD), Huang et al. (1998). Based on a sample collected Mortality Information System (SIM) from DATASUS, decomposition process was carried out for 27 1996 2015. results show that choice crime occurs, largest part, due elements, which predictor future crimes over time. into these two types establishes some evidence regarding criminal behavior can serve as reference policy makers, since implications found raise questions about policies confront reduce crime.
